The Province of Valencia is a Autonomous Community in Spain and the capital has
the same name. The province covers an area of sq. km. and the population is approx. 2.27
million, whereof about one third lives in the capital.
The Valencia International Airport is located in Manice which is around 15 min. drive
from the capital. With daily flights to almost any destination in Europe,
Valencia Airport had 6 million people passing through in 2007.
The Port of Valencia, is one of the bigger on the coast and handles roughly 20% of Spain's export. To prepare for the 32nd Americas Cup in 2007, the port underwent major changes to accommodate this event.
The Pope Benedict XVI, of The Vatican visited in July 2006 and during the Mass on
World Day of Families, he used the cup, believed by many to be the original Holy Grail,
a middle-eastern artifact of the 1st century.
In 2008, Valencia will host the Formula One, on a Monte Carlo-like street circuit,
an event that when announced, sold out in just 10 days.
The Valencia Football Team, Valencia Club de Futbol, one of the biggest clubs in Spain,
winning two National Championships just in the new millennium and one Cup in 2007.
