The Province of Girona is situated north of The Province of Barcelona, with its coast line facing the Mediterranean Sea. Girona is a part of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia. It covers an area of 5900 sq. km. and has 690.000 inhabitants. The Capitol has the same name and is located where the rivers Ter and Onyar meets, giving it a Venetian feel to it. Here lives about 90.000 inhabitants.
The Girona - Costa Brava Airport is located just south of the capitol and is used by up to 5 million passengers annually.

The Girona Cathedral that has been reformed and transformed several times and is of latest designed in a Gothic style and has the widest Gothic nave in the world. Another Gothic inspired Church is the 14th. century Collegiate Church of Santa Feliu.
The Benedictine monastery of Sant Pere de Galligants is also well worth a visit.
The Museum of art, Museu d´Art has a large collection of both modern and medieval art from the province of Girona.
