Cáceres is one out of two Provinces of the Autonomous Community of Extremadura and it is located in the east of the Iberian Peninsula, bordering the provinces of Salamanca, Ávila, Toledo, Badajoz and to the east, Portugal. Cáceres is the second largest province in Spain, covering an area of sq.km and housing about 415.000 inhabitants.
The City of Cáceres was declared World Heritage City in 1986 by UNESCO. The city still has about 30 towers dating back to the Muslim Period. Torre de Bujaco is the most famous of these towers. But Cáceres has a great architectonic history of Roman, Muslim, Gothic and Italian Renaissance styles, amongst others. The caves are also famous: Cuevas de Maltravieso. As a tourist the ancient center of Cáceres is a must, here divided into four; the historical quater, the jewish quarter, the modern center and the outskirts.
