Barcelona is a part of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia and is situated at the northeastern coast of Spain. It has aprroximiately 5.4 million inhabitants and covers an area of about 40.900 sq.km. Located with a coastline to the Mediterranian Sea it boast many beaches and is visited by 100's of thousands tourists anually. The Airport of Barcelona and are among the biggest in Europe. It has hosted several games at the 1982 Football World Cup and also hosted The Olympics in 1992. Here resides also the great football club, F.C. Barcelona who has numerous trophies from national and international tournaments. Formula One is staged here as well, as an annual event!
Museums and monuments are abundant in Barcelona, most famous is propably the masterpiece of Gaudi, known as the Sagrada Familia Church, still under construction to this day! Antoni Gaudi are ever more present and most of his architecture is classified as World Heritages sites.
The "Gothic Quater" is also a must see if you come to Barcelona and want to explore the part known as the old town. And let's not forget The Barcelona Cathedral, which is another example of breathtaking architecture!
The National Museum of Art of Catalonia and The Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art, has important pieces of world-famous artists to see and behold! A small and much less known museum is CosmoCaixa, a science museum, that was awarded the European Museum of The Year in 2006.
