The largest city is Mahon and the highest point is called El Toro, all though its official name is Monte Toro, at an altitud of 358 m. above sea level. The Island holds a large collection of ancient stone monuments also knowned as navetes, taules and talaoits.
In 1993, UNESCO was designated as a biosphere reserve and hereby has been able to keep a lot of the traditional settings with unspoiled beaches and great nature.
Among things of historical and cultural interest are the before mentioned Monte Toro, The Xoriguer Gin Distillery, The Museo Menorca and Placa Alfonso III, where the tourist information office is located in an old windmill.
Regular flights from mainland Spain and the UK and as well Ferries connect Menorca to the mainland and to Mallorca.
