The Province of Asturias, also knowned as The Principality of Asturias is an Autonomous Community within the Kingdom of Spain and is located in the north west of the Iberian Peninsula.
It covers an area of 10.000 sq.km and has about 1.1million inhabitants. Its neighbors are the provinces of: Galicia, Cantabria, León and Burgos.
Asturias is known as the "Spanish Switzerland" due to its countrysides and high mountain areas. Furthermore, Asturias has a wonderful coastline known as The Costa Verde.
The Capital of Asturias is Oviedo where the annual "Prince of Asturias Awards" takes place.
Oviedo houses the ancient Cathedral of San Salvador and the famous Spanish Formula One driver Fernando Alonso was born here.
